The Ekmattra Handi Craft factory was established 3 years ago to provide employment to mothers who are in a difficult environment to raise their children or even to stay alive. Three years after the establishment, the number of staff and facilities in the workshop increased, we are growing steadily toward the realization of our ideal workplace.

渡辺 麻恵 / Mae Watanabe
ekmattra handicraft CEO

Born in Tokyo in 1980. After joining a theater company and performing on stage in Japan, she married Taiki Watanabe, a founding member of Ekmattra, an NGO that supports street children in Bangladesh, and moved to Bangladesh in 2012. Although she has never been involved in international cooperation in a world until now, she has been working as a staff member at Ekmattra in Bangladesh, where she supports the children's minds and bodies as a mother at a support facility. Based on my own experience of giving birth in 2013 and becoming a mother of one child, I aim to create ``employment where people can dream and envision their future'' for single mothers and pregnant women in rural areas who are struggling with poverty. Established Ekmattra Handicraft Workshop to support their financial and mental independence. She sells products centered on miscellaneous goods in Bangla and Japan, and is currently working with 50 mothers and staff to create a world where all mothers are valued as women.
